A brief description of the socially responsible investment option for retirement plans:
Three different socially responsible investment options are available for retirement plans: • The CREF Social Choice Account – This variable annuity account seeks a favorable long-term rate of return that reflects the investment performance of the financial markets while giving special consideration to certain social criteria. • The TIAA-CREF Social Choice Equity Fund – The fund seeks favorable long-term total return that reflects the investment performance of the overall U.S. stock market, as measured by the Russell 3000 Index, while giving special consideration to certain social criteria. • The Vanguard FTSE Social Index Fund Investor Shares – Seeks to track the performance of a benchmark index that measures the investment return of large- and mid-capitalization stocks. The Index screens for certain social and environmental criteria, leading to a growth orientation.
