A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
In May of 2011, a student approached the Office of Sustainability and the Office of Public Affairs with the idea to collect unused amenities from the campus hotel the Morris Inn. The soap, lotion and shampoo collected is donated to a United Way program that distributes the goods to local food pantries. Each semester the program collects over 200 pounds of unused products that would have otherwise gone to the landfill. This program has since spread to at least nine other hotels in the South Bend community and benefits more than six local food pantries.
