A brief description of the technology used:
Occupancy sensors using dual technology have been employed in all new construction and renovation projects since 2008. In larger scale projects such controls are enhanced using an Eaton PowRCommand lighting control system which integrates occupancy sensors, enhanced lighting scheduling and digital switching. The University’s lighting control standard reduces energy consumption through extinguishing lighting when spaces are unoccupied, providing reduced lighting levels either through user choice (digital switching) or through lumen maintenance provided by inputs from photo sensors in the controlled space. Dimming ballasts are standard in all such applications to allow for dimming and lumen maintenance. Corridors and common spaces are controlled completely off during facility unoccupied hours with occupancy sensors employed to turn on emergency level lighting for entry and egress. Emergency systems activate to full on in case of any loss of power. Most buildings on campus currently employ this technology.
