A brief description of the plan:
In July 2012 Notre Dame recieved the honorable mention status as a Bicycle Friendly University. Since that time the University has put together a committee to study biking on campus. The goals and members of this committee are below: Goals 1. To provide structure to collaborative campus cycling initiative. 2. To provide educational programming as well as structured programs to promote the viability of biking to campus to increase ridership amongst the ND community. 3. To address logistical and safety concerns: routes to campus, campus paths, repair, shelter, parking 4. To promote surrounding community cycling opportunities and initiatives. 5. Resubmit ‘Bicycle Friendly University’ application. Planning/Advisory Group RecSports – Jennie Phillips, Kristen Gallagher, Tabbitha Ashford Human Resources – Jennifer Addis Public Affairs – Jessica Brookshire Sustainability – Erin Hafner Food Services – Jocie Antonelli NDSP – Tim Rieter, Alan Foust Cycling Community – Chris Clark, Lynn Kachmarik, Chris Vanden Bossche Since its formation, this committee has reviewed bicycling in campus including facilities, storage and engagment of bicyclists. We are in the process of inventorying bike racks on campus and have created several events and a blog for bicyclists. The University of Notre Dame is also covered in the City of South Bend's Bike Plan as can be seen in the map linked below. http://southbendin.gov/sites/default/files/files/CI_BikeMap2014.07.pdf As of mid-2014, about 64.8 miles of bicycle routes have been established within the City.
