A brief description of the event(s):
The University has had several events that meet this criteria. One of the largest in the last three years was the Oregon University System (OUS) Sustainability Conference.
On October 23-24, 2008, the University of Oregon hosted the inaugural OUS Conference. Senior administrators, auxiliaries directors, staff, and students came together to share on-the-ground successes, discuss new challenges, and build the critical information networks necessary to transform our campuses into models of sustainability. The second OUS Sustainability Conference is planned for February 28, 2011.
In addition, the UO hosted the Powershift West Summit in 2009, which helped promote clean energy on a national scale (http://west.powershift09.org/)
Several departments and groups on campus host speakers and other, smaller sustainability-related events. For example, in fall 2010, the UO Law School hosted a community presentation by James Hanson, the leading climate scientist for NASA, for a presentation about climate change research and policies (http://sustainability.uoregon.edu/news/global-warming-will-be-problem-youth-nasa-climatologist-warns)
Several events like this take place throughout the year.
