Our Climate Action Plan aims for our campus to achieve greenhouse gas levels 10% below 1990 levels by 2020, and climate neutrality by 2050.

A brief summary of the climate plan’s short-term goals:
Our Climate Action Plan aims to stabilize and begin to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in 2010.
This is to be achieved in the following ways:
Scope I emissions: The UO will switch to less carbon- intensive fuel sources, efficiency upgrades, and demand-side conservation practices. Remaining Scope I emissions will be neutralized by purchase of carbon offsets.
Scope II emissions: The UO will implement efficiency upgrades and demand-side conservation practices. Remaining Scope II emissions will be neutralized by purchase of renewable energy credits and/or carbon offsets.
Scope IIIa: The UO will work with Department of Administrative Services to develop appropriate data collection program and increase mile-per-gallon requirements for motor pool vehicles. Remaining emissions will be neutralized by purchasing carbon offsets.
Scope IIIb: The UO will provide and expand transportation alternatives for all faculty, staff, and students. It will also encourage faculty, staff, and students to take personal responsibility for reducing their commute emissions. Increase on-campus housing stock.
Scope IIIc: The UO will consider embodied energy in all of its purchases and reduce these related emissions through smarter purchasing decisions.
