A brief description of the institution’s programs to prepare students from low-income backgrounds for higher education:
1) The Oregon Young Scholars Program (OYSP) was created in 2005 to ensure that children of color, children from low-income households, and first generation attendees are able to obtain access to higher education. OYSP works to provide an early push toward a college education for students who otherwise might not have seen college as a part of their futures. Information about this program is found here: http://oied.uoregon.edu/page/oregon-young-scholars-program 2) The Office of Multicultural Academic Success' Reach for Success Program is the University of Oregon's primary visitation program for middle school students of color. This program introduces students to the university through a day-long program of workshops, campus tours, and cultural presentations. Reach for Success focuses on encouraging students to consider higher education as a viable option for their future. 3) UO's Student Support Services helps undergraduates meet the rigors of higher education and graduate from the University of Oregon. The program is designed for students who have socioeconomic backgrounds, educational records, and personal situations that suggest they may experience challenges at the UO that could be alleviated with use of support services. More information about this program is found here: http://tlc.uoregon.edu/sss/index.html 4) SAIL, UO's "Summer Academy to Inspire Learning," has a goal to increase college enrollment by students from low-income Oregon families. It does this by giving high school students a series of week-long summer day camps designed to show them what being a college student is like, and what they need to do now to prepare for it. This program is unique in that it gives kids a chance to come to college and interact with UO professors - many of them leading researchers in their fields.

A brief description of the institution's scholarships for low-income students:
1) The University of Oregon Diversity Excellence Scholarship recognizes the academic achievement and potential of students who, through sharing their varied cultural perspectives, will enhance the education of all students and the excellence of the university. The Diversity Excellence Scholarship (DES) is a tuition-remission scholarship with awards ranging from partial to full tuition and fee waivers. The UO DES Selection Committee determines the amount and duration of each award. Recipients must meet specific scholarship-renewal requirements to retain their scholarships. More information is found here: http://financialaid.uoregon.edu/diversity_excellence_scholarship 2) The Erickson Scholarship is intended to encourage the higher education of students of color who are underrepresented in the college system. The scholarship is intended to provide a substantial portion of the tuition, room, board and books for a student who otherwise would be financially unable to attend the University of Oregon. 3) Several other scholarships for low-income students are available. More information is found on this Student Financial Aid Scholarships page: http://financialaid.uoregon.edu/scholarships Students can also find scholarships on this search page: http://tembo.uoregon.edu/scholarships/search.asp
