A brief description of the institution’s sustainability partnerships with the local community:
1) Several UO departments participate in the Sustainable Cities Initiative. This is a cross-disciplinary organization at the University of Oregon that seeks to promote education, service, public outreach and research on the design and development of sustainable cities. In the last two years, departments within the UO's School of Architecture and Allied arts have worked in Gresham and Salem, Oregon, focusing their research on ways both cities can integrate sustainable principles at different scales.
More info is found here: http://sci.uoregon.edu/
2) The Sustainable Education Partnership was a collaborative effort in Fall 2008 between the Environmental Leadership Program at the University of Oregon, the Institute for Sustainability Education and Ecology, and Oregon Green Schools. The goal of the project was to help eight schools in the Eugene-Springfield area become certified Oregon Green Schools, while establishing a lasting foundation on which to promote and achieve sustainability in both the schools and the surrounding community.
3) The UO Lundquist College of Business's Center for Sustainable Business Practices promotes the Lundquist College of Business's research, teaching, and outreach activities in sustainability. It is dedicated to preparing students by forging ties between curriculum, research, and practice. It allows students to apply knowledge in live consulting opportunities, and through dozens of field projects and internships that have aided several companies.
4) Countless other sustainability community partnerships take place through the UO Center for Housing Innovation, the UO Center for the Advancement of Sustainable Living, the UO Community Climate Stewards Program, the UO Community Service Center, the UO Ecosystem Workforce Program, and through several other departments, programs and groups on campus.
Clearly, collaboration through sustainability is in the DNA of the UO.
