A brief description of how the physical campus plan or amendment includes sustainability:
The 2011 Campus Master Plan commits the campus to improving sustainability and efficiency of operations. The three primary areas of influence for the plan are energy, transportation, and water. The University plans to move away from coal use and maximize efficiency of heating systems in other buildings. There are also plans to improve water use, stormwater runoff management, better manage natural resources and open space on campus. The plan will improve transportation and connectivity between campus, the surrounding commercial zones, and the James River/James River Park.
