A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
In order to support interdisciplinary scholarly endeavors, the Office of the Provost created Faculty Learning Communities (FLC). These interdisciplinary groups comprise faculty from across the University of Richmond’s five schools (School of Arts and Sciences, Robins School of Business, Jepson School of Leadership Studies, School of Professional and Continuing Studies, and the Richmond School of Law). The FLC concept encourages cross-program, cross-department, and cross-school interdisciplinary engagement. They provide a far-too-infrequent opportunity to have the time and institutional support to establish relationships beyond one's own department or college. Each FLC cohort participates in a collaborative, year-long project on a subject of their choosing. The global climate change FLC was created to identify appropriate and sustainable solutions to climate change. The purpose of this FLC is to explore how the power of liberal education can be used to combat global climate change. This FLC is built upon five imperatives: respond, educate, mitigate, adapt and prevent (REMAP).
