A brief description of the institution’s programs that help increase the diversity of higher education faculty:
The University is a member of the Consortium for Faculty Diversity at Liberal Arts Colleges, whose mission is to assist liberal arts colleges in recruiting a more racially and ethnically diverse faculty by having them provide dissertation and post-doc fellowships to underrepresented scholars. These scholars may go on to a tenure track position with the University or may apply to other institutions with the strengthened resume of a post-doc fellowship.
For all faculty tenure-track hires, there is a policy requiring a trained faculty diversity advocate to sit on each faculty search committee. They complete a training from the Director of Common Ground, the Provost's Office and HR about how to write position descriptions that can attract the broadest pool possible, how to encourage diverse scholars in their pools, and review application materials with an understanding of how implicit bias works, and other key factors related to increasing the likelihood of attracting an excellent and diverse candidate pool. In 2014, our full-time faculty of color was 13% up from 10% in 2010.
