A brief description of any internal sustainability professional development and training opportunities that the institution makes available to non-academic staff:
The Office for Sustainability encourages all campus staff and faculty to participate in the Green Office Program. Through this certification program, offices complete a checklist of environmentally responsible actions to earn improve sustainability practices within their office. The Office for Sustainability also participates in the annual Employee Wellness Fair to offer sustainability resources to employees.

Furthermore, there are a number of sustainability-related educational programs throughout the year that faculty and staff are invited to join in order to learn more about different areas of sustainability. These include how to go solar, climate change in Virginia, how to eat lower on the food chain, and more.

The Bonner Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) sponsors Perspectives, a lunchtime conversation series. Formerly known as the Brown Bag Discussion series, Perspectives offers students, faculty, staff, and community members the opportunity to share a meal while engaging with critical topics. At each lunch, the perspective of a featured speaker or panel will provide a starting point for discussion about a current social issue. Diverse opinions, uncertain understanding, and respectful disagreement are welcome. There are at least two or three sustainability speakers each semester. The CCE also sponsors excursions in the city, sharing possibilities for connection and collaboration and providing ongoing opportunities to enrich their teaching and to learn about the Richmond region.

Every year, staff and Office for Sustainability student interns have the chance to attend the AASHE conference or another sustainability conference, such as Resilient Virginia. The Office for Sustainability pays for some staff and student attendance.

Sustainability is part of the performance reviews for those in Sustainability and the supervisors who work in Facilities under the umbrella of Environmental Operations, which encompasses landscape services, custodial services, and engineering services (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.)
