Eco-Corridor Faculty Fellows: Art, Culture, and History

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
The Eco-Corridor and Little Westham Creek connect UR's campus to the James River. The Eco-Corridor is meant to be a place for learning, exploration, and positive environmental impact. It speaks to a number of key issues facing our society and campus including but not limited to community, wellness, connectivity, environmentalism, sustainability, and the history of enslavement and inequality. The Eco-Corridor provides the opportunity for place-based learning to consider these themes and a space for telling key stories around these themes. Following on the work of the 2018-19 Eco-Corridor Think Tank, and the 2020-21 Eco-Corridor fellowship, this year the CCE invites faculty to take part in a learning community focused on incorporating the Eco-Corridor into classes inspiring collective imagination, knowledge-making, and civic action on pressing public issues. Faculty should apply with at least one course into which they hope to incorporate the Eco-Corridor in some way either in fall 2021 or spring 2022. The learning community will provide a space for learning more about the corridor itself and for faculty to explore how the Eco-Corridor can be a space for learning. This learning community welcomes faculty of any status.

Eco-Corridor Fellows commit to 1) attending the planning meeting in May; 2) attending and bringing draft assignments/syllabus to the August syllabus and assignment workshop; and 3) attending all sixFaculty Learning Community (FLC) meetings throughout the year. Participants receive a $250 stipend per half-day meeting in May and August and receive a $1,000 stipend for participating in the FLC for the academic year (adjusted for attendance).
