A brief description of when and why the GHG emissions baseline was adopted:
2020-2021 was impacted by COVID. The Scope 3 data is much lower than in a normal year due to reduced Study Abroad and directly financed travel.
2008-2009 was the baseline year used to establish the Climate Action Plan, which was published in 2010.

A brief description of the institution’s GHG emissions reduction initiatives:
Scope 2 carbon emissions have been zeroed out from project RECS associated with Spider Solar, a utility scale PPA about an hour north of campus.
Scope 1 emissions were lower due to reduced HVAC and chiller demand due to work-from-home policies that extended to much of campus in summer 2020.
Gas powered steam absorption chillers have been replaced with high efficiency electric chillers that have magnetic bearing units. Variable speed drives are standard in HVAC units.
Scope 3 emissions are drastically reduced, especially study abroad and directly financed travel, due to COVID restrictions.
