In April 2015, a survey was sent out to all students, faculty, and staff to participate. The survey mainly focused on alternative transportation and the importance of reducing USD's carbon footprint. A brief summary of results from the cultural assessment, including a description of any measurable changes over time:
We learned that 65% of students and 85% of faculty and staff primarily commute to campus in a personal vehicle. The biggest incentives to increase alternative transportation are to have reserved parking for carpool vehicles, reduced parking fees for carpool vehicles and increased tram schedule. 65% of respondents said it is very important or extremely important for USD to reduce its impact on the environment.
