A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation:
University of San Diego has included sustainability in the new employee orientation program for several years, mainly in terms of responsible waste management and sustainable transportation. This portion of orientation now also covers responsible energy use (such as remembering to turn off lights, not use space heaters in offices, unplugging appliances, etc.), Zero Waste (waste generation minimization as well as responsible waste disposal), cycling and electric vehicle charging facilities on campus, water conservation, and using reusable bottles and coffee mugs. New employees receive literature that provides this information (supplied by the Office of Sustainability), as well as learning from the Human Resources presenter. All information is also accessible online on the Office of Sustainability's website. USD HR department also partners with various areas on campus to cross promote bike to work day, and other events which highlight and promote sustainable practices. Facilitators also consistently highlight and incorporate speaking points about newer resources to enhance employee's awareness. For example, the new zero waste event guide and the food recovery program. The Office of Sustainability also provides department workshops on sustainable practices for new and existing employees. https://www.sandiego.edu/sustainability/get-involved/resources/.

In addition, the Office of Sustainability personally visits each new full-time employee to share information with them in regard to sustainability-related initiatives, programs, projects, and accomplishments on campus.
