A brief description of the institution’s formal participatory or shared governance bodies:
The Associated Student Government serves the University of San Diego undergraduates as official representatives, who promote opportunities for growth and expression, address student issues, and enrich a diverse, inclusive, and engaged community. All undergraduate students belong to the ASG.

The Graduate Student Council serves the needs of graduate and law students to build and maintain a strong USD graduate student community and advocate for grad student issues.

The University Senate is a forum for faculty input on matters of significance to the university. This body consists of several senators elected by the faculty, the academic deans, provost, and president, a representative of the associated students, a graduate student representative, and a law student representative.

The Community of Human Resources creates excitement and engagement for the all employees of USD by cultivating a culture of care through activities and programs that promote service leadership, rewards and recognition, and community outreach.

A brief description of the campus-community council or equivalent body that gives external stakeholders a regular voice in institutional decisions that affect them:
USD is part of the Linda Vista community, and the Mulvaney Center for Community, Awareness, and Social Action partnered with community members to develop an advisory board with both campus representatives and Linda Vista community members (https://www.sandiego.edu/mccasa/anchor-institution/anchor-communities/linda-vista-anchor-institution.php). Per Chris Nayve, USD Associate Vice President for Community Engagement and Director of the Mulvaney Center, the Linda Vista Advisory Board was co-developed to ensure that local residents and leaders have access to all members of the USD community to address some of the pressing issues in the community.
