A brief description of the institution’s main campus and other aspects of the institutional boundary used to complete this report:
The University of Saskatchewan owns approximately 11,890 acres of land throughout the province and it is used for a variety of purposes. Only 1,865 acres of the University of Saskatchewan's land is located within the boundaries of City of Saskatoon; the majority of university-owned land is rural. Both the urban and rural lands contribute to the University of Saskatchewan's teaching and research activities. University research lands are used by students, faculty and researchers from a variety of colleges and departments. University farm lands are leased to tenants, and that income is used to fund specific research initiatives and scholarships.
Of the 1,865 acres of land held by the University within the boundaries of Saskatoon, approximately 745 acres or 40% are used for the core academic campus and related uses, such as student residences and athletic facilities. The remaining 60% (approximately 1,120 acres) are used to meet some of the university's agricultural, teaching and research needs. The core campus lands house approximately 5 million square feet of built space, and there is the potential for a growth of approximately 3 million square feet, while still maintaining the existing low density development and park-like grounds.
Which of the following features are present on campus and which are included within the institutional boundary?:
Present? | Included? | |
Agricultural school | Yes | Yes |
Medical school | Yes | Yes |
Other professional school with labs and clinics (e.g. dental, nursing, pharmacy, public health, veterinary) | Yes | Yes |
Satellite campus | Yes | No |
Farm larger than 5 acres or 2 hectares | Yes | Yes |
Agricultural experiment station larger than 5 acres or 2 hectares | Yes | Yes |
Hospital | Yes | No |
If there are features present that are not included within the boundary, provide:
Although the hospital is on university land, it is owned and managed by Saskatoon District Health, so the University of Saskatchewan has no operational control over it. In most cases satellite campuses are in leased space which is managed and operated by the owner of the space, so the University of Saskatchewan has no operational control over those spaces.
