Work Green Fall Design Workshop
A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged (2nd campaign):
The Work Green workplace champions program is an outreach program designed to engage university employees, educate them on sustainability issues at the university, and empower them to lead their own initiatives and events to further sustainability causes on campus.
In October 2019, Work Green Champions were invited to attend a special design thinking for sustainability workshop. Attending Champions learned the principles of the design thinking framework and how to apply it towards complex behavioural sustainability problems. Staff members worked together with Champions from different departments and units across campus to identify common sustainability issues and design solutions around them that could be carried out by Work Green Champions and their offices. The results of their work was shared with the entirety of Work Green following the workshop and plans are in place to implement three of their chosen solutions:
1) Workplace Small Changes Challenge
2) Sustainability Checkstops across campus
3) Reusable laboratory glassware/plastics program
A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):
Work Green Sustainability Champion numbers continue to increase year over year as do Work Green grant funding requests and amounts. The results of the Work Green Fall Design Workshop are kept on file at the Office of Sustainability and were shared with Champions through their regular newsletter.
