Sustainability Champions sign-up to lead sustainability initiatives in their workplace. Each champion completes a Work Green certification checklist. On a monthly basis, champions receive a newsletter including information and links to resources or ideas for engaging colleagues. Quarterly meetings allow champions to share successes and challenges. Annual awards recognize achievements. Champions lead initiatives in their workplace such as promoting energy conservation month or leading waste-free coffee challenges. Champions are also able to go the extra distance by taking on unique projects with the Office to tackle specific issues on campus through extended and strategic engagement efforts (e.g. developing a campus-wide behaviour change strategy to reduce disposable coffee cup use).

A brief description of how the employee educators are selected:
The Office of Sustainability reaches out directly to workplaces on campus to recruit new Sustainability Champions. Managers are also asked to share program information with their team and ask employees to self-nominate based on personal interest.

A brief description of the formal training that the employee educators receive to prepare them to conduct peer outreach:
Through Work Green, participants have the opportunity to attend workshops. Topics have included community-based social marketing, energy awareness training and waste prevention options on campus. All new members attend an orientation where they are provided information on sustainability services and programs on campus.

A brief description of the financial and/or administrative support the institution provides to the program (e.g. annual budget and/or paid faculty/staff coordination):
