Due to the University of Sharjah’s achievement in the UI GreenMetric University Rankings, the University of Sharjah has been selected to be the national coordinator for the UI GreenMetric University Rankings
Organized “The 1st National UI GreenMetric Workshop for Universities in the United Arab Emirates” in September 2020
The University of Sharjah, the UI GreenMetric National Coordinator, organized The 1st National Workshop on UI GreenMetric World University Rankings for Universities in the United Arab Emirates in collaboration with the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings administration in Indonesia and participation of several speakers from local universities
The Workshop aimed to exchange experience and cooperation in the field of sustainability and provided an excellent forum to share the best practices, issues, and lessons learned from managing the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings’ six indicators, which are setting and infrastructure, energy, and climate change, waste, water, transportation, and education.
A number of local universities expressed their willingness to join the organization, namely: Khalifa University, Al Ain University, American University of Sharjah, Manipal University, Ajman University, and the University of Rochester in Dubai.

The University of Sharjah participated in "The 6th International (Virtual) Workshop on UI GreenMetric World University Rankings (IWGM 2020)", which discussed over four days the extent of universities' responsibility for sustainable development goals and the complex challenges in the world. This with the aim of creating a platform for information exchange and cooperation in the field of sustainability and discussing plans for cooperation within the UI GreenMetric network. Universities officials attended the workshop along with environmental experts, sustainability directors, and academics interested in the field of sustainability.
During the workshop, Dr. Mohsin Siddique, Assistant Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the College of Engineering, gave a presentation on the excellence of the University of Sharjah in the field of water management, and Prof. Imad Alsyouf, Director of the Sustainability Office, chaired one of the discussion sessions, which focused on innovations in the field of energy management and climate change in universities

It aims to achieve sustainability through the preservation of biodiversity. University of Sharjah won the award in 2019 cycle under the theme of "Sustainable Campus"
-Sharjah Green Award aims to reward organizations from all sectors in Sharjah “Public & Private” who are applying the best environmental practice in all aspects to improve processes and deliver environmentally improved products or services in Sharjah. The award is recognizing innovative organization’s projects that push the boundaries in an effort to waste emissions and enhance sustainability.

A brief description of the mentoring relationship and activities:
The University of Sharjah has an ongoing mentoring relationship with AUS, sharing experiences and best practices to accelerate the movement to sustainability. For example, the University of Sharjah is working on a Water Filtration project to reduce the bottled water consumption and relate on the refillable water bottles. Therefore, a meeting has been held with the AUS Sustainability Office manager to benefit from their experiences in the filtration project and to choose the appropriate type of filter, as the water quality is similar.
