A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the municipal/local level:
The Director of the Sustainability Office has advocated for the creation of a sustainability plan in the Sharjah Municipality, where he met the top managers of the Sharjah municipality to develop a sustainability plan and set the direction for all other plans and policies.

We gave a free consultation to Sharjah Municipality on how to develop a sustainable plan, policy, and tools o measure and assess the level of sustainability performance.
We shared our experience in STARS and UI GreenMetric as tools to measure and enhance our sustainability performance.
We suggested for them some sustainability tools and plans that serve the municipalities.

Climate emergency letter
The University of Sharjah joined Higher Education Institutions across the
globe by signing a Climate Emergency Letter and agreed to undertake a three-point plan through the work of the students.
The three-point plan includes:
1. Committing to go carbon neutral by 2050 at the very latest.
2. Mobilizing more resources for action-oriented climate change research
and skills creation.
3. Increasing the delivery of environmental and sustainability education
across curricula, campus, and community outreach programs.
