A brief description of the institution’s formal participatory or shared governance bodies:

Students are represented through the Student Government Association, an elected body that serves as a liaison between students and faculty, administration, and the South Dakota Board of Regents.

Academic staff are represented on the University Senate. There is one Senator per 15 faculty members. The Senate works with representatives of the administration and Senators serve on several university committees.
