A brief description of when and why the GHG emissions baseline was adopted:
The baseline was adopted as part of the baselining exercise for targets related to the University of Sydney Sustainability Strategy 2020. 2018/2019 was the most recent year without significant ecological and external factors to affect figures - a normal year.

A brief description of the institution’s GHG emissions reduction initiatives:
LED lighting upgrades (Carparks and a student 24/7 space in Carslaw Building)
Building Tuning / BMS optimisation project across buildings on the Camperdown/Darlington Campus
Building retro-commissioning (School of Information Technology Building and and New Law Building )
The University Sustainability Framework for Buildings including required design standards (which will be replaced by Green Star framework from 2021).
Additional on-site generation added on our Camperdown/Darlington campus with rooftop solar on 3 new buildings being commissioned - Susan Wakil, Chau Chak Wing Museum and Engineering and Technology Precinct bringing the total to 23 buildings with rooftop solar equalling 1.1MW generation.
Communication room are in switch-off mode during non-peak times and in buildings not used due to COVID restrictions are put into weekend mode with lights, A/C and monitoring powered down to very minimal use.
Christmas and public holiday closedown and switch off. Buildings are powered down or off during the three weeks of the university Christmas and New Year holidays. This results in the only buildings with lights on are being used to promote campus safety (light reflects on to public walkways and park areas) but AC etc. is powered down.
During the COVID restrictions period, the University powered down large parts of the Camperdown/Darling area and chose to prioritise student 24/7 areas in terms of electricity use. Before staff left to start working from home, they were reminded to power down any equipment not going home with them in a bid to reduce emissions.

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
WCU for performance year differ from the WCU as per PRE5. Our performance years are on the financial year (1 July to 30 June). This is due to our required government reporting on emissions, energy use, waste and water (NGERS). The number of people provided in PRE5 is based on our census date of Semester 1 - 25 March of that year.
Figures in Part 1 differ from the Inventory displayed in OP1. The inventory provided in OP1 is the University's NGERS (National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting) which contains information linked to the University's extended boundary. For STARS reporting, our boundary was reduced to properties where the University has direct operational control i.e. omitting leased spaces and residential colleges. This accounts for space where the Sustainability Strategy 2020 has remit to make changes.
