A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive experience(s) offered by the institution:
The UT Knoxville Chancellor's Office and Office of Research provide funding for a summer internship program to promote research and creative activity among undergraduate students. All undergraduate students enrolled at the Knoxville campus are eligible to apply.
During 2010, 25 of the 75 undergraduates awarded summer research internships had projects that were sustainability-focused. A few examples of these projects include: “Food Composting at the University of Tennessee”, “A Brief History of Environmentalism at UTK”, “Impact of Small Mammals on the Function of an Old Field Ecosystem”, and “Organic Farming and the International Community”.
