A brief description of RECs or other similar renewable energy products purchased during the previous year:
UT Knoxville purchases 5,000 blocks of certified Green-e® renewable energy certificates (RECs) through the TVA/KUB Green Power Switch Program. The 5,000 blocks or 9,000,000 kWh/year-purchase annually offsets approximately 4,404 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MTCDE). This is the equivalent of removing 864 cars from the road for a year.
