A brief description of the institution’s sustainability projects fund:
Funding provided by UTSA based on 3% of semester credit hour or generally $5 per student per semester for Fall and Spring, and $2.50 for Summer sessions. The funding can be used for sustainable research, programs, initiatives, support for grant match, such as hydration stations, student community garden, recycling, building system updates like recycled water or energy retrofits, education, academic courses, etc.
A brief description of the multi-stakeholder decision-making process used to determine which projects receive funding through the sustainability projects fund:
SIR-C Student Initiative Review committee, a sub-committee of the President's Standing Committee on Sustainability, receives and reviews proposals monthly. Proposals are reviewed for completeness and meeting requirements of the proposal call. If selected, proposers are given an opportunity to present to the Sustainability Council. The Council provides insight, advises, and makes recommendations to the student SIR-C committee. The students on the SIR-C make final recommendations to the Director of Sustainability. Standing seats on the SIR-C are Student Body President, Student Government member representative on sustainability, Under-represented student representative and 3 general student representatives who are also members of the Sustainability Council. Sustainability Council members include Academic, Research, and Leadership staff members. All information is made public and meetings are open to the public. NOTE: this system (2020-2021) replaced the 2019-2020 proposal call which was an annual call.
