A brief description of how the employee educators are selected (1st program):
Educators were selected through peer referral, electronic inquiry or self-nomination. The educators are tasked with completing the Green Office Certification application, detailing how the office handles waste management, purchasing, energy, transportation, events and the break room/kitchen in relation to sustainability. They mark which environmental actions they take part in and add up the points to determine the provisional rating.
Many of the actions that offices can earn points with are related to peer-to-peer education, including: actively communicating double-sided printing as default standard, encouraging/facilitating distribution of leftovers, holding an environmental service day and sending regular email reminders about office sustainability (turn off lights, utilize recycle cans, etc.).
