Undergraduate core competencies directly reflect the integrated knowledge, skills, and dispositions that students will need for sustained success and responsible leadership in today's rapidly changing world. Competencies are:

Written communication.
The General Education Program is required for all undergraduates and has a mission of self-understanding, citizenship, and career development. It requires the development of the additional competencies of:
research skills
cross-cultural awareness
ethical reasoning
civic responsibility
aesthetic judgment
Through a series of seminars (PACS) the General Education Program introduces students to the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities and arts and which develop their competencies.
While sustainability is not a specific outcome it is addressed in outcomes such as citizenship, ethical reasoning, civic responsibility and critical thinking.
Pacific Seminar 1 (PACs 1) centers around the question "What is a good society?". The course engages the critical tension between individual rights and social responsibilities as that tension manifests in issues such as identity, equality, and sustainability. Pacific Seminar 3 (PACs 3) centers around the question "What is an ethical life?".
