UTM's newest academic building, Maanjiwe Nendamowinan, was completed in 2018. The building will be certified LEED silver or higher. The project was registered with the Canada Green Building Council in 2016, however certification is currently still pending.

The building features:

More than 80 per cent of the waste from the demolition of the old building was recycled or reused
Recycled and locally sourced building materials
A green cleaning program
Low-emitting paints, sealants, coatings and flooring systems
The building is extremely water-efficient, using 88 per cent less potable water than a conventional building
A rainwater reuse system, with a capacity of 20,000 gallons — the collected rainwater is used for irrigation and toilet flushing
Energy-efficient mechanical systems, which are expected to use 22 per cent less energy than a conventional building
