A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory:
There is a directory available for UTM that lists all departments (graduate and undergraduate) with the relevant department websites:
https://app.utm.utoronto.ca/phonebook/ShowPersonnelAction.action
From there, each individual department site was found, and the faculty list was retrieved. Their faculty profiles, research interests, and publications were reviewed to see if there were connections to sustainability topics and the 17 UN SDGs. Some researchers have labs and external websites discussing their research, which was also included in the spreadsheet in case they needed to be re-assessed.
Several staff members are cross appointed in different departments and programs. Therefore, there was an effort to check the faculty profile to determine if the professor is cross appointed and the spreadsheet was also searched to see if they have already been listed. This was done to check for duplicates to ensure faculty members are not counted twice.
Professors that were on sabbatical or on leave in the previous or upcoming academic year were included, as this inventory spans staff conducted research from 2020-2023.
