Does the institution have a bicycle-sharing program or participate in a local bicycle-sharing program?:
Yes
A brief description of the bicycle sharing program:
UTM BikeShare provides free, up to one week bicycle rentals to students, staff, and faculty. Educational repairs - both for our bikes and campus community members' bikes - are also available.
In order to rent a bike, users must first register with the program, sign a waiver form, and agree to the rules and regulations. Once registered, users can rent a bike and lock. Helmets and lights are also available on request. Rentals are up to one week and users are permitted to take their rental bikes off-campus provided they return them on time.
BikeShare also hosts the annual UTM Community Bike ride organized by the City of Mississauga, every September, a casual, group ride of approximately 15 km that showcases the best bike paths and trails around the UTM campus.
UTM BikeShare was founded in 2004 and operates 4 days a week from April to October, weather permitting.

A brief description of other programs or initiatives to encourage more sustainable modes of transportation and/or reduce the impact of student and employee commuting:
U-Pass - Implemented in 2007, the U-Pass program provides all UTM students (undergraduate, graduate, full and part time) with a pass that allows fare-free unlimited travel on MiWay, Mississauga's local transit provider. The U-Pass fee is included in student fees and cannot be opted out of. In order to board a MiWay bus, the user simply shows their U-Pass card and student ID card to the driver.
Public Transit - The UTM campus is extremely well-served by public transit, with multiple MiWay (Mississauga's public transit service) routes stopping on campus. Brampton Transit also stops on campus, and there are routes that link the campus to GO transit and the Toronto transit system. In addition, the campus bus shelter is fully enclosed and heated to improve comfort for those who are waiting for the bus during winter.
Carpool program - this program provides preferential parking to those who travel to campus with a registered carpool. The best parking spots (those closest to the buildings) are reserved for registered carpool users. The program also provides emergency ride home services (reimbursement of taxi fares) for those who must leave campus unexpectedly during the day.
Shuttle bus - UTM operates a shuttle bus service that provides nonstop service from the UTM campus in Mississauga to the St. George (downtown Toronto) campus. The shuttle bus is fare-free for UTM students and can be accessed by St. George community members, faculty, and staff for a fee. The service runs frequently (every 20 minutes) during peak hours. UTM also operates a shuttle bus to Sheridan College for students who are registered in joint UTM-Sheridan programs.
BikeShare – Bike rental service available to students, staff, faculty, and librarians.
