A brief description of steps taken to ensure that e-waste is recycled responsibly, workers’ basic safety is protected, and environmental standards are met:
Computers and related parallels are recycled through a recycling company contracted by the UVA and corridinated through Procurement and Diversity Services. Cell phones, pagers, small electronics, batteries and media related materials (CDs, DVDs, audio and or video tapes) are sent to recyclers for proper refurbishments or recycling. Fluorescent lamps, ballasts and other lamps are collected by trained electrical mechanics and packaged for proper recycling practices.
