Part 1. Greenhouse gas emissions inventory
Yes
A copy of the most recent GHG emissions inventory:
A brief description of the methodology and/or tool used to complete the GHG emissions inventory:
UVA’s 2019 GHG emissions were calculated using the web-based Sustainability Indicator Management & Analysis Platform (SIMAP) developed by the University of New Hampshire. The methodologies in this tool are aligned with the recommendations of the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) guidance, which refers to The Climate Registry’s General Reporting Protocol and the World Resource Institutes’ Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard. Additionally, as of 2018, UVA transitioned from eGRID’s location-based emission factors to its market-based emission factors because it allows UVA to claim the specific emission rate associated with the RECs purchased from the Dominion owned and operated Hollyfield and Puller utility-scale solar projects.
Has the GHG emissions inventory been validated internally by personnel who are independent of the GHG accounting and reporting process and/or verified by an independent, external third party?:
Yes
A brief description of the GHG inventory verification process:
Personnel in UVA's Facilities Management Operations department (staff not affiliated with the Office for Sustainability) review the data to ensure accuracy.
Documentation to support the GHG inventory verification process:
---

A brief description of how the institution accounted for its Scope 3 emissions:
Scope 3 emissions are calculated through actual measurements, with the exception of commuting, which is calculated based on survey results.
Part 2. Air pollutant emissions inventory

Yes or No | |
Major stationary sources | Yes |
Area sources | No |
Mobile sources | No |
Commuting | No |
Off-site electricity production | No |
None
A brief description of the methodology(ies) the institution used to complete its air emissions inventory:
Emission calculations for most equipment are based on EPA or manufacturer emission factors multiplied by measured operating data (e.g., fuel consumption, material processed, or hours run). The Main Heat Plant boilers have continuous emission monitors for CO, NOx and SO2. O3 and ODS are not calculated.
