Total energy consumption (electric and non-electric)

Total energy consumption, performance year:
2,483,195.27 MMBtu

Clean and renewable energy sources

Clean and renewable electricity

Clean and renewable electricity (report kilowatt-hours):
kWh MMBtu
Imported electricity from certified/verified clean and renewable sources (i.e., bundled green power purchases) 61,061,154 Kilowatt-hours 208,340.66 MMBtu
Electricity from on-site, clean and renewable sources (rights retained/retired) 366,784.11 Kilowatt-hours 1,251.47 MMBtu

A brief description of the certified/verified sources of clean and renewable electricity:
The University and Darden are purchasing for 25 years the entire output of electricity produced at UVA Hollyfield Solar project, a 160-acre 17 MW (AC) solar facility owned and operated by Dominion Energy, that came online in September 2018. The University also has contracted, under a 25-year agreement, to purchase the output of Dominion Energy’s 120-acre 15 MW (AC) Puller Solar facility that came online in November 2018.

A brief description of the on-site renewable electricity generating facilities/devices:
In 2016, a 15 kW solar PV array was installed on Skipwith Hall. Additionally, in 2017 a 126 kW solar PV array was installed on the roof of Clemmons Library. The University also has installed a 1.2 kW photovoltaic array that is used to charge prototype electric vehicles. This is also being used for research to determine the cost-effectiveness of photovoltaic applications on Grounds. As part of our Alternative Energy Study, we are considering a variety of options to commercially produced energy.

UVA is leases roof space on Ruffner Hall and the Bookstore to Dominion Power which holds a combined 364 kW solar array. UVA is also currently adding a 191 kW PV solar array on the Ivy Stacks building that will be operational in 2018 (After the performance period so not included in these calculations).
