A brief description of the institution’s main campus and other aspects of the institutional boundary used to complete this report:
The University of Virginia is a public institution of higher learning guided by a founding vision of discovery, innovation, and development of the full potential of talented students from all walks of life. It serves the Commonwealth of Virginia, the nation, and the world by developing responsible citizen leaders and professionals; advancing, preserving, and disseminating knowledge; and providing world-class patient care. The institutional boundary includes all academic buildings and operations, and our Health System (hospital, outpatient clinics, School of Medicine, School of Nursing) buildings and operations, totaling 1,150 acres.
A notable aspect of the UVA campus is our Academical Village UNESCO World Heritage Site - the portion of our Grounds designed by and built under the direction of Thomas Jefferson. UVA is the only campus in the United States that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and only one of four in the world, so this is an important distinction. The campus is famous for its beauty and iconic architectural status throughout the world.

We have included contiguous features in our institutional boundary - those not included are separate parcels of land that are throughout Virginia. For example, the College at Wise is our satellite campus located in Wise, VA. Blandy Farm is an experimental field Station and the State Arboretum in Northern Virginia. Morven houses an organic vegetable farm.
