The University of Virginia is committed to partnering with organizations in Charlottesville and the surrounding counties to create a more just, equitable, and sustainable community. For University employees who are able, volunteering one’s time, talents, and energy to mission-driven organizations, supports community well-being and personal satisfaction. School Assistance and Volunteer Service Leave provides up to 16 hours of paid leave in any year. An additional 8 hours may be allowed for full-time employees serving in a volunteer fire department or rescue squad.

A large majority of the data came from annual report reviewing and direct outreach with relevant stakeholders.

According to email exchanges with the UVA Public Pathways program, 1,449 students participated in academic classes that required at around 20 hours of community service + engagement work throughout the semester. https://provost.virginia.edu/subsite/public-service-pathways

According to phone exchanges with the Fraternity and Sorority Life office, all students involved in Greek Life are required to pursue community service or philanthropy efforts.
