The University of Washington aims to engage the community in sustainability in multiple ways. The community is invited to events such as Paws on Science, the Conservation Remix, the Sustainability Summit, Earth Day, and multiple public lectures, where innovative ideas related to the environment and sustainability are shared. http://www.pacificsciencecenter.org/Research-Weekends/paws-on-science http://conservationremix.org/ http://sustainabilitysummit.uw.edu http://green.washington.edu/earth-day-2012 Environmental non-profit agencies in the Seattle area are able to work with the UW Carlson Center for Service Learning to provide students with the opportunity to volunteer for credit with environmental groups, allowing students to give back to the community. http://depts.washington.edu/leader/ The University also trains the Conservation Canines, dogs that track animal scat in order for researchers around the world to gain information on endangered animal species.
