Based on the results of the 2005 University Diversity Appraisal the Council addresses issues of diversity in the following areas: Mission and Goals Diversity Leadership and Governance Pipeline/Outreach Student Recruitment and Admissions Student Development and Retention Faculty Recruitment, Development and Retention Staff Recruitment, Development and Retention Curriculum Research Climate Community Outreach Council members share diversity best practices, engage in institutional diversity planning, and make recommendations to University administration about pressing diversity issues.

Cultivating Cultural Competence This one-day class brings a light touch to a seemingly heavy subject. Through experiential learning in a nonjudgmental setting, develop positive strategies to handle the interpersonal issues that can arise from cultural differences and to increase your cultural competency. There is also a diversity requirement for all undergraduates: https://www.washington.edu/uaa/advising/academic-planning/general-education-requirements/diversity/ The University's Professional and Continuing Education office also offers one on one coaching and targeted trainings for individual departments and academic or administrative units as requested.
