Percentage of new employees (faculty and staff) that are offered orientation and/or outreach and guidance materials that cover sustainability topics:
65

A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation (including how multiple dimensions of sustainability are addressed):
All staff receive information about campus sustainability efforts as part of their orientation. Human Resources provides an overview presentation on campus sustainability during new employee orientation sessions, including a snapshot of the Sustainability Report and in messaging on institutional initiatives from the President’s Office. They also promote key sustainability services to new employees, such as discounted bus passes, carpool matching, local and vegetarian food options, coffee discounts when you bring a reusable cup, and where to go to learn more information. Waterloo’s Sustainability Office has begun partnering with HR to join the welcome fair for new faculty members, including by setting up a booth and providing information about services on campus, Waterloo’s objectives and progress, and the Sustainability Guide. Since not all staff and faculty members attend the orientation sessions, it is estimated that these efforts reach approximately 65% of all new staff and faculty based on attendance records.
