Energize: Sustainable City Challenge
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
The University of Waterloo has partnered with ClimateActionWR, local school boards, and the Waterloo Global Science Initiative to develop a collaborative board game using to encourage youth awareness and participation in local action on mitigating climate change. The Energize game uses real-world data on energy and emissions from Waterloo Region, and provides action cards for participants to find different ways of generating clean energy or reducing energy consumption through efficiency programs.
The game has been utilized in classrooms, and at large-scale events such as the Waterloo-Wellington Science and Engineering Fair and the Global Youth Forum led by the Centre for International Governance Innovation, reaching over 850 students and community members in its first 6 months.
