Waterloo's Collaborative Water Program is an interdisciplinary graduate program focused on encouraging students to push the boundaries of their research and discover innovative ways to tackle global water challenges. Students complete their specialist training in a home department, and also work with students from across disciplines on two interdisciplinary courses that include theoretical and practical content, fieldwork, interdisciplinary group work, and research seminars. Home programs across campus which participate in the Collaborative Water Program at the graduate or PhD level include Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Economics, Geography, Environment and Resource Studies, Sustainability Management, Applied Mathematics, Public Health and Applied Health Systems, Biology, Social and Ecological Sustainability, and Earth Sciences.
Over 240 students have been engaged in the first six cohorts of the program, from across all six faculties at Waterloo, and enrollment has approximately doubled between 2013/14 to 2018/19.
