Which of the following best describes the institution’s approach to rainwater management?:
No written policies, plans or guidelines, but green infrastructure and LID practices are used
A brief description of the institution’s green infrastructure and LID practices:
Stormwater management systems have been implemented on a case-by-case basis in several locations around campus. The University has 3 permeable pavement installations on South Campus, as well as 3 green roofs and 2 rooftop gardens that support rainwater collection and retention. In addition, it has installed a cistern next to the Environment 3 building that collects and stores rainwater and distributes it back into the building for non-potable consumption in toilets and to water the living wall. On the North Campus, the University utilizes extensive stormwater management infrastructure through several storm ponds. Waterloo’s Northwest Campus development guidelines also include criteria for stormwater management systems throughout the site.
