A brief description of the institution's green laboratory program:
The Green Labs program is focused on engaging lab users on sustainable lab practices. The program is supported by a three-pronged framework, including an ambassador network, a resource toolkit, and a Green Labs scorecard which provides a list of recommended actions to improve sustainability in the lab setting. Categories in the scorecard include energy conservation, waste management, materials management (including chemical use/disposal), water conservation, ventilation (i.e. fume hoods), sustainable procurement, and engagement. The resource toolkit provides a range of resources, such as graphics, signage, and best practice guides, to support implementation of actions within the scorecard. The Sustainability Office tries to host at least one event or meeting of ambassadors each term to foster shared learning and problem solving between participating labs and has set up a Green Labs group on MS Teams for ongoing collaboration.
