A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the inventory:
An Environmental Project Coordinator at Western's Physical Plant examined all departments and their corresponding course descriptions from 2008 to 2011 through Western's online academic calendar. Based on the information provided from each department's website and the academic calendar, sustainability-focused and -related courses were compiled according to the definitions provided by AASHE.
To ensure that the course inventory is as accurate as possible, an email was sent out to every department's undergraduate and graduate chairs to validate the compiled course inventory. This engagement allowed faculty members to remove as well as add courses. Once replies were received from faculty, amendments were made to the sustainability course inventory.
