A brief description of the student-managed SRI fund:
The Western Investment Club (WIC) exists to assist the student body in gaining a clear understanding of capital markets and career opportunities that are available in the investment industry. This is achieved through managing a portfolio valued at over CAD$100,000, holding seminars with industry professionals, providing opportunities to network at social events, and developing members communication skills through weekly presentations and panel discussions.
In recognition of the importance of green energy and the great potential in the sector, WIC is currently invested in a green energy company, Alterra Power Corporation (http://www.alterrapower.ca/)(TSX:PCC). WIC has accumulated a stake in PCC, which today is worth about CAD$10,000 or about 7% of WIC's total portfolio.
