A brief description of the graduate degree program (1st program):
The Master's in Environment & Sustainability (MES) is an interdisciplinary, one-year, course-based program at Western University, which uses project-based learning to enhance the graduate student's skill-set, in preparation for a career in the environmental field. The summer co-op follows two intensive academic terms, and is a required part of the student’s degree. Students can pursue a collaborative thesis-based Master's or PhD program or a course-based Master's degree program in Environment and Sustainability (MES). We have introduced a set of Environment and Sustainability elective courses. The Interdisciplinary Topics in Environment and Sustainability graduate-level series of courses will be offered to UWO graduate students with the appropriate prerequisites, as determined by the instructor. The summer co-op is an important part of the students learning, and provides them with the practical knowledge to compliment their academic studies. Throughout the years, students have been a part of some amazing projects to further sustainability in businesses and in government.

A brief description of the graduate degree program (2nd program):
The Collaborative Program in Environment and Sustainability is an enrichment program designed for current graduate students (MSc/MA/MESc or PhD) who wish to become specialists in specific aspects of environment and sustainability, and who also wish to gain an appreciation of the interdisciplinary nature of environmental problems and solutions. The Collaborative Program in Environment and Sustainability was designed with three goals in mind: 1) to build upon and complement the discipline-based programs relevant to environment and sustainability; 2) to promote an appreciation on the interdisciplinary nature of environmental problems; and 3) to develop a community of students and faculty across Western who are interested in environment and sustainability. In order to promote the interdisciplinary nature of environmental research, the students are also required to have at least one faculty member on their Thesis Advisory Committee who is from another Department and who is approved by the School of Graduate and Post-Doctoral Studies (SGPS) for participation in graduate education in the Environment and Sustainability graduate programs (i.e., an Environment and Sustainability faculty member).
