In 2008, Western established an operational policy that all new building construction and retrofits will achieve a minimum LEED Silver certification. In 2014, this policy was modified to say that "Best efforts should be made to undertake design and construction at a level to achieve a minimum of LEED silver certification, nothing there may be renovation projects where this is not achievable without significant additional expenditures. In this case, the Vice-President (Resources & Operations) shall have the final recommendation. This statement does not mean that formal certification will be sought. Currently, Western has 3 LEED certified buildings on campus: LEED Gold (1 building): Claudette MacKay-Lassonde Pavillion (New Construction) LEED Silver (1 building): McIntosh Gallery (Existing Building) LEED Silver Stevenson-Lawson Building (Existing Building, certified in June 2014) Buildings registered for LEED Certification, still pending certification (9 buildings): Richard Ivey School of Business*, Physics and Astronomy Building, Medical Education Centre*, Ontario Hall*, Music Building**, WindEEE*, Fraunhofer Project Centre*, Delaware Hall*, and Accelerator Building (on Advanced Manufacturing Park)*.
