Total energy consumption (all sources, transportation fuels excluded), performance year:
483,589.25
MMBtu
None
Clean and renewable energy from the following sources::
Performance Year | |
Option 1: Clean and renewable electricity generated on-site during the performance year and for which the institution retains or has retired the associated environmental attributes | 0.01 MMBtu |
Option 2: Non-electric renewable energy generated on-site | 0 MMBtu |
Option 3: Clean and renewable electricity generated by off-site projects that the institution catalyzed and for which the institution retains or has retired the associated environmental attributes | 0 MMBtu |
Option 4: Purchased third-party certified RECs and similar renewable energy products (including renewable electricity purchased through a certified green power purchasing option) | 69.20 MMBtu |

A brief description of on-site renewable electricity generating devices :
There are 2 photovoltaic panels and 1 small wind turbine on top of the CMLP(Claudette MacKay-Lassonde Pavilion). Each of these units produces 1 kWh of energy (approximately 1kWh of energy produced = 0.003412 MMBtu) resulting in a total of 0.010236 MMBtu. This energy is used for research and to power some lights at the CMLP.
None
A brief description of on-site renewable non-electric energy devices:
---
None
A brief description of off-site, institution-catalyzed, renewable electricity generating devices:
The Institute for Chemicals and Fuels from Alternative Resources (ICFAR) generates bio-oil and biochar - both sources of renewable energy. However, this energy is not currently being used on-site or by Western.
None
A brief description of the RECs and/or similar renewable energy products:
Green Energy Credits (GECs) are purchased from Bullfrog Power and are associated with McIntosh Gallery, a public art gallery on campus. 1.69 MWh of GECs are purchased per month = 20.28 MWh annually= 69.19536 MMBtu for one year.
These are the GECs that would occur over 12 months to match the performance year (i.e. May 1, 2012 to April 30, 2013). However, the contract itself has been for a total of two years and terminates this year.
