A brief description of the facilities for bicycle commuters:
Bicycle lockers: located throughout campus, these spacious lockers provide safety and protection for bicycles and bike gear.

Lockers for bicycle commuters: The Western Student Recreation Center (Rec Centre) offers full and half size rental lockers in both the men's and women's locker rooms ($65-108 Sept-April). A limited number of lockers are also available for day use. There are also lockers for rent available at the University Community Center ($45-55 from Sept-April).

A brief description of the bicycle/pedestrian policy and/or network:
The campus is bicycle- and rollerblade-friendly. The main arteries that lead to the campus core are lined with designated paths, and some routes on campus have been completely closed to vehicles. A large, centrally-located row of bicycle racks and lockers provides a main cyclist hub near the University Community Centre, and students have access to showers and lockers at the nearby Western Student Recreation Centre. In total, the University provides space for 2,100 bicycles across campus, conveniently locating many of the bike racks near building entrances.

A brief description of the bicycle sharing program:
The Purple Bikes group promotes cycling at the University of Western Ontario and at large in the London community.
The Bikeshare lends out bicycles, giving people the opportunity to commute to and around campus and tour the city on a bike.
The Bike Workshop is where bikes are remodelled for bikeshare and is also open to the public so they can do their own repairs. With a $5/term workshop membership, the public can gain access to their tools and inventory where they can purchase new and used parts for their bike.

The Bus Pass program is designed for all full-time undergraduate and graduate students at Western. Students pay a reduced price for the bus pass from an agreement reached between the London Transit Commission (LTC) and the USC (University Student Council). The cost of the bus pass is applied to the tuition statement.
The pass allows unlimited rides to all bus stop locations in London, all hours of operation, seven days a week, which include holidays and on all regularly scheduled LTC bus routes.

Western Parking and Visitor Services joined 'Commuter Connections' - a ride share initiative in 2003. This system is designed to be a 'self-serve' ride-matching service that co-ordinates rides to campus for students, staff and faculty. Preferential parking spaces are available on campus for registered carpools.
All registrations are made through the University of Western Ontario work site listing located on the 'Find a Carpool' page of the following website - www.carpool.ca.

Although there are no formal telecommuting programs at Western, there are some departments and even individual researchers, who make their own arrangements to allow staff to work from home.
There are also a number of individual cases where employees have telecommuted for a period of time as a special arrangement made for various reasons, including injuries of a physical nature that prevents them from coming to campus.

Facilities Management' unionized employees and management have developed a combined staggered and compressed work week format that allows an employee to select his/her starting time and to enable additional days off during the normal work week.
Furthermore, academic and managerial staff normally exercise discretion as to the manner by which they fulfill their responsibilities and may establish reasonably flexible work hours, in both instances subject to the operational requirements of their unit and the University.

Students, faculty and staff members of Western are eligible to apply to live at Platt's Lane Estates. These townhouses feature all the amenities for comfortable family living, while situated close to the university.

Western is participating in Ontario's Share the Road, U-Cycle campaign. One of the student benefits of this campaign allows for bike riders to receive a discount at participating businesses within London when they come in with their helmet and Western student card.
